It all began in 1969, when the Varna Puppet Theater first hosted national puppet-theater celebrations. Their success exceeded all expectations, and just a year later, they transformed into a true festival of Bulgarian puppet dramaturgy. Then, in October 1972, the First International Festival of the Bulgarian Puppet Play "The Golden Dolphin" was inaugurated. In the colorful spectrum of world theater festivals, a unique forum was born, which every three years gathers in Varna renowned theaters from the country and around the world, introducing audiences to their magical art. Recipients of the "Golden Dolphin" statuette inscribe in their history a prestigious award, a mark of high artistic mastery in puppet art.
