Bao'er: Shenzhen Little Orange Castle - Shenzhen, China

“Bao’er” is a classic picture book created by the renowned Chinese picture book author Cai Gao. “Bao’er” is a work that transcends age boundaries, utilizing the style of the Qing Dynasty marketplace to convey a remarkable sense of resilience and strength.

We define the theme of this work as “love makes people brave,” drawing upon the selfless and fearless nature of a child’s love, which we believe surpasses even a mother’s love. Through the adventurous narrative and poetic scenes, we aim to portray the warmth between mother and child, in the hope of instilling in children the love and fearlessness bestowed by their parents, thus empowering them with the courage to face the future.

Long ago, Bao’er and his parents resided in an old mansion, leading a contented and tranquil existence. Bao’er’s father, a merchant, frequently undertook business trips, leaving Bao’er and his mother alone at home. One night, amidst the darkness, Bao’er and his mother were fast asleep when the entrance to their home suddenly creaked open. The following morning, Bao’er discovered his mother lying on the bed, her face pallid… Bao’er, confronting danger alone, exhibits selfless and unwavering love and courage. With sagacity, he calmly outwits the fox-demon, rescues his mother, and undergoes personal growth.
