Simon Wong is the Artistic Director of Ming Ri Institute for Arts Education, the first professional children’s theatre in Hong Kong. He directed over 50 performances. Every year Ming Ri Institute for Arts Education produces 4 new children theatre productions which amount to around 100 performances. Ming Ri is also an important player in Educational Drama and Theatre in Hong Kong and was commissioned by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong government to manage the Quality Education Fund Thematic Network and organize teacher training workshops. Over the decades, the organization has the commitment to the development of children theatre, drama in education, and the preservation and development of puppetry. In view of the work of drama in education, Mr. Wong has initiated the application of drama in education in forms of the development of drama curriculum and dramatized teaching methodology since 1995.
Some of the projects he instructed included “Primary school teachers training in creative teaching”, “Puppetry teaching workshop to pre-primary school teachers”. He has published articles and publications, such as: “The Handbook in Puppetry Teaching for pre-school teacher”. Mr. Simon Wong is a lecturer in Hong Kong Baptist University. Meanwhile he works in different commissions of Union Internationale de la Marionette (UNIMA), as well as a member of the Executive Committee, the Chairman of its subcommittee group of the Education, Development and Puppet Therapy and the Vice Chairman of the Heritage Commission. He was appointed to be the member of the Arts Education Committee of the Hong Kong Curriculum Development Council, the arts education consultant of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, the committee member of the Community Development Committee of the HK Central & Western District Board. He is also a secretary general of Asia Asian Alliance of Festivals and Theatres for Young Audiences (ATYA).
Promoted the development of theatre education and the development of children’s theatre in the primary schools and kindergartens including 5,000 teachers carried out theatre education courses. The China Education Ministry has awarded the organization for this. Currently she is a General Manager in Rizhao Theatre.
