Romeo and Juliet

The performance staged by almost all theaters in the world, in the puppet interpretation, is aimed at young people and has the genre “not a tragedy”. Young Kazakh Director Dina Zhumabayeva emphasizes the timeless nature of the love story told by Shakespeare. The introduction of dolls, paper, paint, candle fire, as well as modern clothing on the actors, music, and choreography made it possible to combine everyday elements and stage conventions.

About

The Almaty State Puppet Theater was established in 1935. In the theater space of Kazakhstan, this one was the first puppet theater. In other cities of Kazakhstan, other puppet theaters were created in the 80ꞌs. 

For 87 years, puppets of all kinds have appeared on its stage – from simple rod puppets to complex marionettes. The activities of the theater are aimed at educating the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism, humanism and friendship between peoples. The current repertoire of the theater includes about 30 performances, which are in Kazakh and Russian languages. Also Almaty State Puppet Theater has been participating in festivals for many years, winning prizes and contributing to the development of Kazakh puppet art.
