Kuthi: Tricktrek Theater - Tallinn, Estonia

The wedding of the king’s daughter is the most important event in the castle. But in the midst of the fun, the castle is attacked by ancient warriors-the crows of Kuthi… The story is timeless: peaceful inhabitants are attacked by the black warrior ravens, the Kuthi, who seek to steal joy and freedom. The defenders of the castle fight not only for its walls, but also for the right to happiness.

The castle conceals a huge number of secrets: strange inhabitants ,retractable walls, movable parts, secret rooms and strange inhabitants. The audience is waiting for siege guns, catapults, the cunning of the defenders, the treachery of the attackers — and an unpredictable ending.

“Kuthi” is a performance game with no words — only action, music, and stage mechanics. It is a dynamic theatrical battle involving both puppets and actors. The atmosphere of medieval Gothic, mystery and magic is supported by an alarming musical accompaniment. All the scenery of the play, all the characters are made of wood.

About

Tricktrek is a traveling puppet theater from Estonia, founded in 2017 by Alexander and Serafima. Their performances merge engineering and mechanics, turning wooden constructions into spectacles that captivate both children and adults. The main idea of Tricktrek is to show that puppet theater has no boundaries. The company grew out of a dream to stage technically complex performances not only in professional theaters but also in the streets. Their first work was The Crocodile — an intimate, playful show in which, at the end, children can interact with the mechanisms and marionettes. The theater’s largest production is Kuthi: a mechanical performance set in a large wooden castle with moving walls, secret rooms, and hidden mechanisms that come alive during the show. Today, Tricktrek is a regular participant in European festivals. The theater has received two awards for best scenography and design.
