Georgi Mitev Puppet Theatre, Yambol is a kind of cultural center for the spiritual growth of young people. On 27th March 1957, the International Day of theatre, the first puppet theater performance took place in the town. At the end of 1970 by a Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria, the theater was established as a state cultural institution. In August 2007, by a Decree of the president of the Republic of Bulgaria, the theater was named after the famous puppet actor Georgi Mitev. We are very proud that our theatre has managed to go through all the vicissitudes of time. Today it is among the first puppet theaters in Bulgaria with time-tested fame in Bulgaria and abroad. The theater’s production has been exported and is presently exported far beyond the borders of the country – Poland, Italy, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Belgium, Russia, Hungary, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Serbia, where the theatre receives high recognition for its art. “Georgi Mitev – Zhoro” State Puppet Theatre hosts the National Puppet Theatre Festival “Mihail Lakatnik”.
